Meet Here Mornings with Bijoy Goswami – Evangelizing the Entrepreneur Scene

Event Details

Wednesday, November 10 from 9am to 12pm.

About the topic:

In a recent linkedin post describing this topic, wrote, “Learn about the Scene Map, developed by Bijoy in his work with the Austin Equation. The Scene Map depicts key elements and resources in our community. Discover resources available to you that you may not realize are available. Understand how our community of entrepreneurs will be essential for your success. Get out of your cave.”

Before attending the event, Bijoy suggests that you watch this short video http://www.atxequation.com/.

About the Speaker:

Bijoy Goswami is deeply interested in how we create extraordinary, meaningful and joyful lives. He sees our unique human capability of building mental models as a vital part of this endeavor. He loves building and sharing simple, yet powerful models, including MRE, youPlusU and Bootstrap.

His life has been an inadvertent study of contrasting spiritual, cultural and intellectual models. He was born in Bangalore, India on April 15, 1973, to a Catholic mother and a Hindu father. He moved to Taiwan at the age of ten and Hong Kong at fourteen. He came to the US in 1991, attending Stanford, where he studied Computer Science, Economics, History and completed an Honors program in Science, Technology and Society. He spent a term at Oxford. In 1995 he moved to Austin, TX, to join a software startup and cofounded Aviri software in April 2000. In 2003, he began in earnest, his work as a model-builder, bootstrapper and evangelist.

Bijoy expresses and communicates his models through books, music, film, community, and websites. The process also deepens his understanding of the models and how to effectively convey them. Collaboration is at the heart of this process and he has been very lucky in finding extraordinary partners. Their expertise combines with the model, and through multiple iterations, a unique creation results. Some of these include Bootstrap Austin, The Human Fabric and Mystic Cab.

How can we help you grow?

I had lunch with this week. Amongst many other things including his idea blog, we talked about how it’s important to share your intentions with others. Often times, the likelihood of intentions to manifest in reality increases if you share them early and often.

So, I decided to share a story that I tell every day. Every time a new person comes by to check out Cospace, this is what I share with them:

The Cospace mission is: To be a foundation for small business owners, entrepreneurs and freelancers.

I believe that there are 3 critical components to this foundation:

1) Affordable Infrastructure: Everyone needs a stable foundation to build their business from. Infrastructure is traditionally expensive and inflexible. It should be affordable and flexible, so that’s what Cospace provide.

2) Relationships: Everyone needs a foundation of core relationships to grow their business. It typically starts with your own personal and professional network. Cospace believes in helping people expand that network. Getting connected to other like minded professionals can make or break your business.

3) Resources: Everyone needs to continue to develop professionally to keep pace in the fast changing world of business. Cospace is committed to supporting networking, learning and training opportunities to the best of our ability.

The Cospace vision is: That the future of work is Lean, Mobile and Diverse. We hope to someday provide a nationally accessible network of foundations(Cospaces) for business owners, entrepreneurs and freelancers.

The Cospace plan is to:

Step 1: Continue to grow our membership at our Anderson Lane location. For September, we had 21 paid memberships + 4 co-founders and were about $980 from breaking even.

Step2: Expand to 2 full-size locations in Austin in the next 12 months. We are currently targeting Round Rock as the next location.

Step 3: Expand to 1 cafe size location in Austin in the next 12-18 months.

Step 4: Expand our offering to Franchisees across the US in the next 18-24 months.

Somewhere along the way: We expect to partner (and we’ve already started that process) with amazing Resource and Relationship providers. We don’t want to be a incubator or accelerator. But we’d like to have an app for that.

And Then: When people visit Cospace we also take a tour, learn about each others’ business and background, talk membership, talk about Cospace members, etc. Not everyone is interested or is looking for all 3 of things I mentioned above, but if you haven’t toured yet, and you’re looking for a foundation please schedule a visit!

Talk to you again soon.

Love,

Kirtus

Meet Here Mornings – Jason Cohen: A Geek Sifts Through the Bullsh*t

Event Details

Wednesday, July 7 from 9am to 12pm.

About the topic (from Jason):

So many business philosophies profess they’re the One True Way, yet different business face different hurdles. After starting three companies, I’ve found that some widely accepted advice lead to failure while trusting my (inexperienced) gut lead to success. In this talk-plus-discussion I’ll give specific advice about when to follow the rules and when to go your own way.

About the Speaker:

Jason is the founder of Smart Bear Software, maker of Code Collaborator, the world’s most popular tool for peer code review and winner of the Jolt Award. He took Smart Bear from start to multiple millions in revenue and 50% profit margin without debt or VC, then sold it for cash.

Jason is also a founding member of ITWatchdogs, another bootstrapped startup which became profitable and was sold. He’s also a mentor at Capital Factory (like TechStars or Y-Combinator in Austin) and the co-host of OnStartups Answers along with Dharmesh Shah.

Introducing Team Memberships at Cospace

We are pleased to announce a membership option for teams or groups who want to join the community and take advantage of the space and resources that Cospace provides.
$500 team membership
Cospace understands the flexibility that a small team or group needs and we make things easy for our members. Sometimes it is important for all team members to be in the same place at the same time, and sometimes it isn’t. We don’t want anyone to have to worry about when and where they can work.

Our Team Rate allows up to 5 team members access to Cospace at any given time for just $500 per month. Each member of the team receives all of the benefits of our community membership; workspace, free high speed wifi, free printer/copier/scanner use, free coffee and water. The team membership also includes free meeting room hours. Your team or group can reserve either of our conference rooms up to 8 hours each week for free. The team can purchase additional hours at the member rate.

At $500 per month, the team rate is likely the most inexpensive replacement for office space your team or group will find in town. But, as our members tell us, the real value is the opportunity to connect your team or group to a community of like-minded professionals in a collaborative environment. After 3 months of operation, our member base is starting to take shape. We are home to entrepreneurs and mobile professionals working in various domains. We have telecommuters, mobile employees and many early stage startups and small businesses with their CEO based right here at Cospace. We’ve also hosted a number of virtual companies, groups and professional organizations in our meeting spaces. Cospace is a great community centered around collaboration and we exist because of the great people, space and resources.

If you are interested in a group membership, contact us today.
